Assam: Three Dead In Landslide Incidents, 25,000 People Affected By First Wave Of Flood Amid Incessant Rains

New Delhi:  Three people including one woman died in landslide incidents in the Haflong area in Dima Hasao district on Saturday, around 25,000 people have been affected by the first wave of the floods this year across six districts of Assam.  Incessant rain in the past couple of days in Assam and neighbouring states – Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh – has led to the rise of water levels in several rivers and the Kopli river is flowing above the danger level, ANI reported. The floodwaters have also submerged 1732.72 hectares of cropland in the flood-hit districts. According to the flood reports of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), till May 14, a total of 24,681 people in 94 villages in six districts - Cachar, Dhemaji, Hojai, Karbi Anglong West, Nagaon and Kamrup (Metro) have been affected in the first spell of flood, ANI reported. Mundka Fire: Delhi Police Arrest Building Owner Absconding After Blaze That Killed 27

New Delhi:  The Delhi Police on Sunday arrested Manish Lakra, the third accused in the Mundka fire incident.  Lakra was the owner of the building where 27 people were killed in a fire incident near Mundka Metro station, New Delhi, on May 13.  Several people were injured in the mishap.  According to news agency ANI, Delhi Police informed that it nabbed Manish Lakra after conducting multiple raids in Delhi and Haryana. With this, the total number of people arrested in the case has risen to three. On Saturday, May 14, the Delhi Police said that they would take the help of a forensic team to identify the bodies, and that a First Investigation Report (FIR) had been registered.  Sameer Sharma, DCP, Outer District said they had detained the owners of a CCTV camera and router manufacturing company that was operating on the first floor of the building that caught fire.  He added that there are chances that more bodies may be recovered as the rescue operation was yet...

Char Dham Yatra: 31 Pilgrims Die Due To Mountain Sickness & Other Problems, Health Dept Starts Screening

New Delhi:  As many as 31 pilgrims have lost their lives owing to mountain sickness and other health problems since the beginning of the Char Dham Yatra on May 3, a health Official from Uttarakhand told news agency ANI.  “So far 31 pilgrims and one local resident of Badrinath have died in the 12 days since the commencement of the Char Dham Yatra.  All of them died due to high blood pressure, heart attack, and mountain sickness," Uttarakhand Director-General Health Dr. Shailja Bhatt said. Gyanvapi Mosque Case: Videography Survey Continues For Second Day Amid Tight Security

  New Delhi:  The Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri complex survey commenced for the second day on Sunday amid tight security, officials told news agency ANI. The court-appointed special assistant commissioner Advocate Vishal Singh said, “The survey will be conducted between 8 am-12 noon.” In order to maintain law and order in the area, the police cordoned off the road near the complex. In addition, all shops within the 500-metre radius of the complex were shut on the first day of the survey on Saturday.  “Darshan has been arranged for all. All the routes have been opened so that the visitors do not face any problems and police personnel have been accordingly deployed.  Right now entry is being given to a member of the commission from one gate and devotees are having darshan from the rest," said Varanasi DCP RS Gautam on Gyanvapi Masjid.
